I hope you were able to enjoy the long weekend and accomplish everything you wanted to do. I have a very varied list of suggestions for you this week, so grab a cup of whatever works for you and enjoy this week’s eclectic collection, curated just for your business leader self:

  • What’s your dolphin name?
  • Mind expanding is what I call this one, originally sharing from 1440: “Scientists have demonstrated for the first time the ability to teleport quantum information across points in a network not physically connected to each other, according to research released yesterday. The advance marks a key step forward in the development of a scalable quantum internet.” If this isn’t heavy enough for you, you can go deeper here.
  • Some companies are initiating layoffs while others cannot find enough workers to fulfill demand. Here’s a list of companies that recently announced layoffs and the rationale behind them. Many of the companies cite rising labor costs.
  • The costs are rising for the labor side of business too. This from CNN talks about how expansive workday lunches have become as more workers return to the office.
  • There’s your age and then there’s your age. New calculators reveal you may be younger (or older) than you think.

Do Good Spotlight: Clean Air Task Force

The Clean Air Task Force is working to decarbonize the global energy system to address climate change. They push the change in technologies and policies needed to get to a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost. They imagine a world where the energy needs of all people are met efficiently without damaging the atmosphere. We donated to help support them and here’s where you can learn more.

  • If you’re an adult supporting an adult child over 18, you’re not alone. If fact, half of parents with adult children in the US are providing them some level of financial support. Here’s the 411 from CNBC
  • Pretty much every company needs environmental sustainability planning. Here’s what to do even if you’re running a small company.
  • How about your personal sustainability? According to professor Sara Mednick, the #1 way to prevent dementia is to be in bed by 10 p.m., “’The earlier you get to sleep, the more slow-wave sleep you’ll get,” says Sara Mednick, a professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Irvine, and author of The Power of the Downstate. Slow-wave sleep (SWS) supercharges brain health, clearing away toxins and other buildup that cause dementia, as well as developing connections between areas of the brain to create stronger memories. But SWS also abides by nature’s circadian clock and peters out at around 1 a.m., so you need to hit the sack early to maximize your time there. In short, you can’t close your eyes at midnight and still expect to net three hours of memory-protective SWS.’” And here are 49 more health tips.

That’s it for this week. Enjoy the short week, and I hope you’re taking advantage of the weather to enjoy outside time with family and friends. Stay well, stay strong, stay focused—and have fun too!
